How we compare prices
GrindPair is an independent price tracker for espresso machines and grinders. We pull the current price for each product from multiple retailers, rank them lowest first, and estimate what a complete, ready-to-brew setup actually costs. Here's exactly how that works.
Where the prices come from
For every product we track, we collect the listed price directly from each retailer's own product page — for example Amazon, Best Buy, Williams Sonoma, and specialist espresso retailers such as Clive Coffee, Seattle Coffee Gear, and Whole Latte Love. We only show a retailer for a product when we have a current price from that retailer; we never invent or estimate a number to fill a gap.
How often prices refresh
Prices are re-checked on a regular schedule and each refresh is timestamped. The figure you see is the most recent price we recorded, and on each product page the best-price history sparkline shows how the lowest available price has moved over time. Retailers change prices frequently, so a price can shift between our last check and the moment you reach checkout — always confirm the final price on the retailer's own site before buying.
How we rank retailers
For each product we sort offers by current price and mark the lowest as cheapest. Every other retailer is shown with how much more it costs versus that cheapest price, so the comparison is always lowest-price-first. We also report the spread — the gap between the highest and lowest price — so you can see at a glance whether shopping around is worth it or whether everyone is charging roughly the same.
Some products are subject to a manufacturer's MAP policy, where retailers are not allowed to advertise below a set floor and the real price only appears in the cart. Where we detect this we flag the product as MAP so you know the listed price may be higher than what you'll actually pay.
Complete-setup cost
A great espresso machine still needs a capable grinder and a few essentials before it can pull a good shot. For each machine we suggest grinder pairings at three levels — good, better, and best — chosen so the grinder is balanced against the cost and capability of the machine rather than wildly over- or under-matched. We then add an estimate for the essentials kit (things like a tamper, scale, and basics) to show a realistic complete setup total, not just the sticker price of the machine. Machines with a built-in grinder are marked as ready to brew, with grinder upgrades shown as optional.
How we make money & stay independent
GrindPair is free to use. Some of the links to retailers are affiliate links, which means if you click through and buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That commission is how the site is funded.
Crucially, affiliate relationships never influence our rankings. We sort purely by current price, lowest first. A retailer we earn nothing from will still be shown as cheapest if it has the lowest price, and we never reorder, hide, or promote a retailer because of an affiliate arrangement.
Accuracy & corrections
We work hard to keep prices accurate, but listings change constantly and errors can happen. The price on the retailer's own checkout page is always the authoritative one. If you spot something wrong, let us know and we'll fix it.
